I’ve got one more piece of furniture to share with you that I gave a makeover to for my coastal bedroom redo. This night table was once a sewing machine cabinet. It’s another of those pieces that my mother had in her shop a number of years ago. By the time she got it, the sewing machine had already been removed and it was being used as a side table. Spruced up with white paint and a pop of color, it’s now a pretty night table in the guest room
This is what I started with for my sewing cabinet makeover.It was drab brown with no personality. It is a very sturdy piece with very little damage. There is one spot on the back side that has a little dent in it.
I removed the hardware and gave it two coats of Glidden Grab-N-Go in Antique White. I used my palm sander to distress it a little.
I painted the hardware the same color that I’ve been using for lots of the decor pieces in the room as well as the chest of drawers.
After reattaching the hardware, I used Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish to complete the makeover. You can see the seam on the top that opens to house the machine. The paint and the polycrylic provide a seal on it. There’s no need to open it. It would be nice if there were drawers in it, but considering the cost of this was nothing more than paint and finish, I’m happy with it as is.
I love taking old pieces that are drab and turning them into items that are a perfect fit for my decor. This makeover only took a couple of hours from start to finish and what a difference it made!
