I took a bit of a break in posting more of my Coastal Bedroom Makeover, but I have a few more projects to share. Giving makeovers to the dark, dated furniture in my guest room was the best way to give the room its coastal feel. Since buying new furniture wasn’t in my budget, the way to get the look I wanted was to paint everything in sight. I started with an old bookcase that we bought years ago when Gloria was in middle school. It’s held up well through some moves and is very sturdy.
This bookcase has served its purpose well over the years, but it was time to freshen it up.
I painted it using Glidden Grab-N-Go in Antique White. I gave it two coats, allowing for complete drying time between the two coats.
Once it was dry, I lightly sanded it with my palm sander around the edges. I used a round wax brush to give it a coat of Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish. I used a cheese cloth to wipe off the excess wax.
Once the painting was complete, it was time to style the bookcase with coastal decor. I added the oval frame with a lighthouse print, the basket and the sail boat that recently got makeovers.
I purchased the glass container and added a candle inside.
I used the mixture of paint that I’ve been using for lots of the decor pieces to change the look of some bottles and candle holders.
The wood basket with rope handles was a piece I found at TJ Maxx. I added some coastal filler to it. This was the filler that came in the woven rope packaging that I used for my wine bottle upcycle.
I found a couple of framed coastal pieces at Michael’s that were priced at half off.
The lanterns on top are ones I’ve had for several years. I added rope to them along with a candle.
It was easy to change the drab bookcase into a piece that goes well with coastal decor. It’s now the perfect home to lots of my coastal makeovers.
We party with some awesome bloggers. We’ll be sharing at lots of these great parties!
