Adding more coastal decor to my guest room makeover was easy and inexpensive. Finding various items at thrift stores and storing them away until I think of something to do with them is a frequent occurrence. It’s hard to pass up items that are less than $2.00 when I know that sooner or later, I’ll find the perfect uses for them! Have a look at these 3 easy coastal decor projects from thrift store finds.
This basket is one I found several months ago at Goodwill. It was in great shape and it wasn’t even dirty! I thought about saving it to use with fall decor, but when I started looking through my thrift store stash, I knew it could be turned into a coastal basket.
I gave it a couple of coats of chalk paint and tied a piece of twine around it. I painted a starfish using the same paint I used for the drawer pulls on the chest of drawers makeover. It’s hot glued to the basket.
How simple was that? I added some coastal vase filler and that was all it took to change the thrift store basket into coastal decor.
A recent thrift store find was this sail boat. It was in pretty sad shape, but I knew it could be given new life and be a fun addition to the room.
I took it apart using wire cutters to remove the sails.
I painted the sails and the boat using the same paint I used for my mirror makeover. I had to pull out the twisted wires because they were brittle and breaking. I used fish line when I reattached the sails.
I used a stencil to paint an R on the boat and added a small clay disc with a shell imprint. This was something that came from another thrift store find. It was great for this.
After I put it back together, I thought it looked just right for the room.
The last of these thrift store find makeovers uses a frame. If you follow me, you know how much I love using thrift store frames for lots of projects. I loved that this one was oval and that it was $1.99.
I removed the paper backing and the glass. I saved the glass of course! I’m not sure what I’ll use it for, but you never know. The frame got a quick chalk paint job to match my seahorse wall decor and it was ready to go.
I used a print of Point Loma Lighthouse that I love.
The lighthouse is on Point Loma Penisula at the mouth of the San Diego Bay. It was one of my favorite places to visit when we lived in San Diego. I’ve had this print for years and never displayed it. Now, it has a new home.
The cost for all three of these makeovers was under $10. You can’t beat that kind of price! I’m pleased that I found great uses for these three items, clearing out a little bit of space in my ever growing thrift store stash! Simple projects are my favorite kind!
We party with some awesome bloggers. We’ll be sharing at lots of these great parties.
